Our head chef, Mahesh, was born near Lucknow, North India. His extensive training led him to a position at the highly-acclaimed 5 star restaurants of Mumbai, The Oberoi and the Taj, renowned for their specially curated gourmand menus, with dishes passed down from the Mughal Emperors.

From there, Mahesh broadened his experience in selected restaurants in Dubai and England allowing various influences to develop his innovations on Indian cuisine to provide a modern and European blend of style and presentation.

Our restaurant manager and consultant, Mukite Gous (Tony), was born and brought up in one of the North East's centres of the curry world: Jesmond in Newcastle upon Tyne! His father and uncles and many other members of his family, including himself, have owned some of the most renowned and popular Indian restaurants of the North East. He now brings all his wealth of knowledge and experience to Durham, at Holi & Bhang Restaurant and Bar.
